FACTS ON DELOREAN: The DeLorean DMC-12 Was bulit by DeLorean Motor company. The company was in Northern Ireland. John DeLorean, an American, was the companys owner, former Vice President of General Motors. It was built with stainless steel panels, snapped onto a plastic like body called Elastic Reservior Molding (ERM). The stainlees steel will not rust, and came unpainted. It has a rear engine, which is a PRV-V6 Volvo engine, mounted behind the rear wheels. Also, it had gull-wing doors. They were manufactured in 1981,1982,1983, and I have learned 2 were made in 1984 (total of 8,543 were built). They were John DeLorean's dream. In a town called Snyder, in Texas, one of the two, gold, American Express Gold DeLoreans is on display in a bank. I has never been driven, but would get 27 miles per gallon (mpg). The Stainless stell is gold plated. It has been there since the 1980's. It was boughten for $85,000. The buyer bought it on a credit card. Around ten people were interested but only two paid the $10,000 deposit. In case you are wondering, the car is for sale---Asking price is $175,000. There were supposed to be 100 of the cars, but only two came out of the company. The movie "Back to the Future" was known for using DeLoreans for the "time machine". The film company bought 6 DeLoreans for use in the movies (I, II, and III). The scene on "Back to the Future III" towards the end, where the DeLorean was hit by a train was real--a rough DeLorean was boughten for $4,000 and hit. Retail price: $25,000 FACTS ON TUCKER: The Tucker car's title was 1948 Tucker Torpedo Sedan. It was built by the Tucker Motor Company. The companys owner was Preston Tucker. The car was supposed to be ahead of its time and it was. Some of the features: A rear engine similiar to that of a helicopter or and airplane that was water cooled, suicide doors, thumb shift, a special feature that enabled the front middle headlight (they had three, right, left, and middle) to turn with the wheels to see at all times, lots of inner space, and dash was only in front of the driver, letting the front passanger, and the person in middle (if there), have lots of room. In testing at the Indianapolis speedway, it went 153 mph. At 40mph it got 30 mpg, and 17 mpg at over 100mph. 0-60 in ten seconds, engine and drive train could be taken off by 2 men in 17 minutes, and it was 60 inches tall. Safety features: side visable tail lights, excellent brakes, pop out windsheild with safety glass, padded dash, and front passenger safety box. There was a movie made in 1988 called "Tucker, The Man and his Dream". In the movie they used several fiberglass "Tuckers", mainly with Ford Galaxie chassis, and a 1950's Studebaker, nicknamed "Stucker", for the race track roll-over scene. You can tell it is a "Stucker" because you can see the engine and drivetrain (remember, Tuckers had rear engines). It originally had a 6 cylinder motor that was not very high performance. It had 2 tops, a detachable hard top and a detachable soft top, or you could go with no top. Then they decided to put a 8 cylinder motor in 1954. The motor in a Corvette is a factory bored out 350 (with exception of the L-48 and the L-82 motors). In 1955 they changed the body style to what they had until 1962. In the 60's there was a Corvette Stingray. In 1978 there was also a limited edition pace car used in the 1978 Indianapolis 500 that was in small production. It had t-tops and the L-82 motor with the Offical Pace Car decals on the sides. There was also special edition interior. Retail Price:$----- Going price Now: $25,000 (rebuilt) FACTS ON SHELBY COBRA: January 11, 1923 Carroll Shelby was born. In 1952, he drove his first race, in a hotrod with a flathead 8 cylinder. He was Sports Illustrated's "Driver of the Year" in 1956, then again in 1957. December 1960 he drove his last race and got fifth place. A company called AC Cars in England lost it's 6 cylinder motor source in 1961, and Shelby sent them a letter telling them to keep making chassis for a special Shelby sports car with a V8. The owner of the company gave the ok, as long as Shelby found a reliable motor source, and in March 1962 Shelby-American begins operation. At first there was a slow production rate because of AC Cars' extensively engineered chassis. In 1963 there were 125 Shelby "Cobra's" produced. 1964 Shelby-American won the famous European 24-hour Le Mans race. Ford asked Shelby to make a street-legal Mustang fastback. Then in 1964 the 1965 GT350 streetcars were built. Then Shelby added another motor to it's cars-a 427. They were just using a 289 before. In October 1965 the 1966 Shelby GT350 fastbacks went on sale. In November 1966 the 1967 Shelby GT350 fastbacks were delivered to dealers. Then, in 1967 the last "Cobra" 427 was built. In 1975 Shelby-American Automobile Club was founded. Then in 1982 the Dodge Shelby Charger prototype was built.
